Lisa Kudrow
(Phoebe Buffay)
Lisa Kudrow earned an Emmy Award in 1998 as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Phoebe, the spacy but lovable folk singer and massage therapist. She was first nominated in 1995 for the same role. She was also nominated for Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and American Comedy Awards for her performance on Friends.

She was born on July 30 and  graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She wanted to pursue a career in research. She would probably be doing it without being given the wish to perform by one of her brother’s friends,  actor/comedian Jon Lovitz . In and improvisation class she took back then, she met and became close with Conan O’Brien (NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien).

She later got the part of Ursula, the waitress on NBC's Mad About You , which led to Kudrow’s starring role on Friends. On television she was on Bob, Cheers, Coach, Newhart, Flying Blind and Hope & Gloria.

Kudrow was in several movies. She starred opposite Mira Sorvino in the hit comedy Romy & Michele’s  High School Reunion and co-starred in Mother. She received a New York Film Critics Award for her starring role in The Opposite of Sex, and got a part in Clockwatchers. Analyze This for director Harold Ramis, co-starring Billy Crystal and Robert DeNiro is one of her most recent project. Her new moving, Hanging Up is starring Walter Matteau, Diane Keaton and Meg Ryan.

A native of California, Kudrow was born in Encino and raised in Tarzana. She, her husband, Michel Stern, and their new baby live in Los Angeles.
